New Directions Educational Solutions offers Face to Face and Virtual Professional Development

Times are changing and we are adapting by continuing to  support effective instruction whether it is face to face or virtual with teachers.  We are offering virtual professional development  for ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies.  We are also able to provide virtual professional development for teachers in after-school programs.  Our consultants have extensive experience and training in Tier 1 curricula and can assist teachers in the following areas:

ELA GUIDEBOOKS

Initial Curriculum Training , Continuous Learning Support, Addressing Unfinished Learning, and Unit and Lesson Study Professional Development

Content Leader Module Redelivery

1 day per grade

Redelivery of LDOE Modules for a general understanding of the ELA shifts, purpose and design of Guidebooks.  

Addressing Learning Needs

2 hrs. per grade

Using Guidebooks instructional materials, participants will use extended learning opportunities through monitored independent activities on Google Classroom that can transition to distance learning as well. Participants will leave with a management system for grouping in place to Start Strong in 2020.   

Small Group Instruction and Learning Gaps

2 hrs. per grade

Using the LDOE and Guidebooks Supports to diagnose and plan for small group instruction, participants will leave the P.D. with materials and Google Classroom/Platform ready for instruction to accommodate gaps in learning for students. 

Unpacking Guidebooks Units and Lessons

1 day per grade

Participants will gain an understanding of how the current unit connects with prior and future units of study. The units will be unpacked to determine critical junctures to assess student learning throughout the lessons using the Express Your Understanding/Exit Tickets. Participants will leave the P.D. with predetermined checkpoints for specific student feedback.  


ZEARN MATH

Initial Curriculum Training , Continuous Learning Support, Addressing Unfinished Learning, and Unit and Lesson Study Professional Development

Classroom Implementation

6 hrs

The interactive session is designed to support teachers in setting up the Zearn Math rotational classroom model. Teachers will be guided in developing pacing calendars by grade level that interweaves foundational skills from the previous grade level using LA Believes math resources and Zearn interventions.

Supporting Diverse Learners and Learning Gaps

2 hrs per grade

Teachers will leave the training knowing how to use EXIT tickets to support diverse learners and learning gaps through small group instruction. 

Zearn Math for Intervention

2 hrs per grade

Whether the intervention is part of core instruction, targeted extra time, or intensive individualized intervention, teachers will be guided through using individualized Zearn student reports, assigning specific student lessons to target unfinished learning to build personalized remediation paths with built-in support on concepts from previous grades. 

Zearn Curriculum Study

1 hr per mission

Teachers will be guided through grade level – mission specific interactive sessions designed to build content knowledge on teaching the Zearn Math curriculum. 


EUREKA MATH

Virtually Planning a Math Lesson--Eureka

2 hrs per grade

Capture Important Concepts of a Lesson Using Backwards Planning

Tips to Support an Online Lesson

3 hrs

Teachers will leave understanding how to incorporate student discourse, academic language, and questioning techniques into an online lesson.

Incorporate Strategies to Address Unfinished Learning

3 hrs

Using informal assessments online to address gaps in learning related to the lesson

Essential Steps for Unpacking a Eureka Math Module

3 hrs

Road map to Deepening Teacher Understanding of Lesson Sequences for Math 


Science and Social Studies

Initial Curriculum Training , Continuous Learning Support, Addressing Unfinished Learning, and Unit and Lesson Study Professional Development

Curriculum Training for Science/Social Studies

Half day per grade

Overview of standards, resources, companion documents, assessment guidance and calendar pacing samples. Participants will leave with a plan for implementing the curriculum and with an understanding of what the standards require students to be able to do. 

Writing : Science & Social Studies

3 hrs per session

Session 1 Strategies to help teachers involve students to generate writing in any content area. 

Session 2: Share writing samples and answer questions about implementation

Session 3: Generate portfolio to share, progress monitor, rubric ratings, and writing conferences to improve writing 

Meeting Students' Needs in Social Studies and Science

3 hrs per

Upon leaving, participants   will be able to identify   where within lessons students will struggle and plan for how to support   students.

Participants will leave with an understanding of how to use   EXIT tickets to assess gaps in learning and a plan for intervention groups to   address the unfinished learning. 

Using Backwards Design to Propel Learning

3 hrs per

Participants will leave with an understanding and plan of how to use Backwards Design to develop assessments, plan, annotate, teach, assess, and analyze results as well as group for diverse learning needs.
